Hi Everyone,
I am 29 M. I was recently diagnosed around 2months ago with BE no dysplasia, Short segment, and Mild reactive Gastritis. I was having some stomach pain after eating cold food or drinking beer for a few years and didn't go to the doctor. I never had reflux symptoms that were bad. Occasionally, I would have some reflux.
After my endoscopy, however, I got really bad time swallowing food and water and started taking the PPI's. I took 20 Mg for the first 7 days and upped my dose to 40 Mg Omeprazole after that. The hard time swallowing food and water only went away after I made dietary and lifestyle changes for GERD and BE.I started following the low acid diet by Jaime Koufman right now and drink Alkaline water ph9.5+ . The diet and lifestyle change was more effective than the PPI for me so I stopped taking the PPI gradually after 45 days of 40 Mg and 15 days of 20 Mg then gradually tapered with H2 antagonists and Gaviscon. I am planning to continue this lifestyle and dietary restrictions long term and stop taking PPI's and other medicines altogether. If I have symptoms then I will take it.
Has anyone else with BE not taking PPI's and gone to subsequent endoscopies where your Barretts have remained the same or even healed? How long have you had BE for where you have stopped taking the PPI's altogether? Any feedback would be appreciated!
