Famotidine is over-the-counter histamine, and not a PPI - you shouldn't have any withdrawal from stopping it. If you doctor wants you to take the Omeprazole on its own, then that's what you should do.

Hey Glenn-
Yes, I was on both for about
4 months.
Specifically for LPR symptoms (but technically, un-diagnosed at the time of taking.) I was diagnosed with Globus Sensation about
3 months in, but because of a lack of knowledgeable medical professionals in this area where I live, it took me over a year and traveling 200 miles to find a specialist that knew anything about
LPR. There was a LOT of self-advocacy due to frustrations involved.
After 4 months, I can honestly say they didn't do much for me. Once I weened off of them, it was also clear the Famotidine was a HUGE reason for my "fatigue". The mornings were terrible.
Let me know if you have any questions re: my personal experience. Everyone is different, though.

I have looked into this myself. I have not taken this specific pair, but an equivalent pair (lansoprazole/cimetidine) i.e. PPI/H2 antagonist, during a very bad spell. Normally I just have the PPI. The rationale is that the PPI only works well if taken before breakfast, which mean that by bedtime your acid production is beginning to pick up again. The H2 antagonist is more effective overnight than extra PPI, just because of the way it works. When things had settled I went back to just the PPI. Normally you don't need both, but it does makes perfect sense to have them on the same day, but not at the same time.
