I'm new - is aciphex a ppi? 

I have had such sever bouts of nausea that I havent been able to work, and today they put me on this stuff.  I need immediate relief, but apparantly this will take awhile.  Any recommendations in the interim?

Yes, Aciphex is a PPI. I went on Nexium on 4/14, and it took me about 3 months and still I go into a heartburn attack off and on. Right now it is due to a new med by doc felt I needed, WelChol.

I have noticed tonight that I'm feeling better, so hope I'm getting used to that med.

You have to give it time. I know it is hard. I don't know what I would have done without my FMS pain meds to take to stop the heartburn. The Lortabs really worked.

Thanks for responding.  The internet says there are no real side effects, but on here the ppi's seem to cause all kinds of stuff.  What side effects have you noticed?

I have constipation, fluid in my feet/legs with the Nexium 40 mg. a day. I am doing okay with the constipation by using stool softeners/stimulants, 3 magnesium pills, and a probiotic (Jarro-Dolphius EPS). For the fluid I take Bumex 1 mg, a day, but I still have fluid problems. I haven't gone back to my doc yet as I have tried to lower my sodium and I want to see if I can tolerate the Nexium. The only other option for me would be Protonix. So I am trying to make the Nexium work. It has helped me a lot, but I think I will need it a long time.

My husband has been on Protonix for over 3 years.

One needs to get their B12 checked if you are on a PPI.

When I started taking Aciphex, I had insomnia. That went away after a week. I've also developed sensitive skin, and I bouts of itchiness. I've been on Aciphex for about 2 months now. Hopefully the itchiness will go away also.

Thankfully my symptoms improved greatly after about a month and have continued to increase incrementally. These days, I feel almost normal. I'm hoping to get off the medication soon. I think stress really plays a huge role because on days when I get stressed out, I feel noticeably worse.
