Thats the Thousand Dollar Question.....
I think alot of it is stress related. I don't know if you read in one of my prior posts that I lost my 15 year old son last year in a traffic accident. I also suffer from severe health anxiety disorder and I know what my mind can do.
The thing is though I have been suffering with this problem for over 3 years. I was also bulemic for 15 years and during that time I probably puked at least once a day for 5 years. The doc did not find any evidence from the ED which kind of shocked me because I thought my problems were a result of years of abuse catching up to me. I put off going to the doc because of the anxiety of what it could be. I finally decided to go when I developed swallowing issues for certain foods. My 51 year old sis was dx with Barretts in May and she has a history of drinking, smoking and anxiety px pills. I thought for sure I had it because of my years of abusing my body. I guess someone was watching over me.
Something interesting happened that kind of pushed me to go to the doc. One night after falling asleep after one of my anxiety attacks that I was a goner. I had a dream that my son came to me and we sat down on the couch and he laid his head in my lap and I rubbed his head as a mother would to comfort her child. When I woke up I had the courage to finally get this issue taken care of. It was as if my son was coming to me to tell me everything would be ok.
There are other issues that can cause problems such as NERD which is Negative Endoscopy Reflux Disease (in some cases it is also called Non Erosive Reflux Disease). It can mean that your esophagus is just highly sensitive to the normal unt of refluxing....sometimes called vascular hypersensitivity. Doctors sometimes treat this with GERD meds and/or anti-depressants (as a pain desensititzer).
There is also function dyspepsia. I will provide the link

Take care and hope all goes well with you
