Hi, I'm 30 years old and was diagnosed in March with reflux laryngitis. In April I had an endoscopy done that showed some damage to the lower 3rd of my esophagus, but no Barrett's, but the doc wanted to make sure it didn't progress to Barrett's.
He put me on nexium and told me to avoid certain foods, avoid sleeping after eating, etc, so I've tried my best to comply. I don't really get heartburn anymore, but I do think I may have developed a stricture due to difficulty burping and swallowing.
Also, even tho the heartburn has stopped, I still get a burning sensation in my larynx regularly anyway that started in early August. I have an appointment on the 19th of October but until then I am feeling rather paranoid and scared. Could it be that Barrett's has progressed in the short time since April?
I've been on the nexium (40 mg twice daily since March, i know that is a lot) but it did still take me some time to get the hang of the eating habits and find a good way to elevate my bed (i don't have a bed but a mattress on a plank of plywood) but now I have that figured out.
Anyway, I almost never have heartburn anymore, mostly just burping difficulty and this throat burning sensation? Could someone give me any advice while I wait to see the doc? I'm rather frightened, and being obsessive compulsive doesn't help.
Thanks,
Crystal
