heartburn on and off

I hardly ever get heartburn but the past few weeks I have been getting it off and on. I think I have been fighting a low grade virus and that may be the cause but I am not sure. Are there certain foods that cause heartburn because I always heard spicey foods do and they never seem to give it to me so are there others?

Foods that are high in fat will often cause heartburn for me. Sometimes high fiber foods will, too.

If you don't normally have the problem, just go get some OTC medicine like Pepcid or even Maalox. Try not to take it unless you're pretty uncomfortable, though.

Thanks debaser for your advice. I have been eating more fiber recently and thought that was good for heartburn so perhaps that what my problem is or my body is not used to the increase in fiber now that I am trying to eat healthier. Thanks again.

What have you been taking for the low-grade virus? I got GERD (and got rid of it) after taking Advil, especially at night.

I have been taking motrin which is the same as advil so perhaps that's the problem. Thanks. Did just stopping the advil cure it or did you have to do more?
