Dee, I had annual winter sinus infections for about 8 years. Then I got into trouble with 3 courses of antibiotics for one sinus infection, and had to take seriously the preventive treatment recommended by my doctor: saline rinse.
I have done it for the past 2 winters, and have not had a sinus infection. If I feel a cold coming on, I do it as often as 4x/day. You can find the recipe on the internet, but here's mine: 1/4 teaspoon sea salt to 1 cup of warm water. (I boil a small amount of water to dissolve the sea salt, and then add tap water to make a cup.) Fill one of those nasal plungers you use on babies with the saline solution. Initially, just stand over the sink and squirt the stuff into each of your nostrils, shooting toward the back of your head (not UP). Let it drain out. Messy, yes. (BTW, my doctor uses a turkey baster to shoot the solution up.)
Now, I have graduated to squirting the stuff into one nostril, and tilting my head to let it run out the other nostril. A friend can squirt it in her nostrils and have it come out her mouth. All I know is - it works.
I tried the commercially-prepared stuff and had my first nosebleed - maybe it was just coincidence, but I stick to making my own. Good luck.
