Has anyone heard or read about
adding more stomach acid as a treatment for GERD? I heard on the radio that a top doctor recommends that instead of neutralizing acid in the stomach we should be adding acidity as a cure for GERD. Am I crazy or does this sound like total quackery to you too? I would like to get off the meds but more acid? What have you heard about
this?

Sounds strange to me... I wouldn't go for that option unless you can find more info substantiating the claim. Do you know the name of the doctor?
Though, come to think of it, one of the most often mentionned and trusted natural remedy for acid reflux is apple cider vinegar, which would be an implementation of the more-acid-theory, wouldn't it?

Google this topic and you will find all kinds of info. There is reason to believe that low stomach acid is more often the cause of GERD rather than too much stomach acid.
Look up the protocol for Betaine HCL. It's an easy to find supplement and it's safe to try. Just follow the protocol. IMO, anyone who hasn't been tested and diagnosed with too much stomach acid should try Betaine HCL along with digestive enzymes.
Yes, Apple Cider Vinegar would provide relief for the same reason. But the Betaine HCL supplement would also provide pepsin, which you stomach needs for digestion and will not produce in adequate amounts when the PH is too high.

I don't understand because I emailed a GI doctor and he said that GERd is never caused by too little acid (since it is acid that is refluxing up, etc.)...
