So I'm not new to acid reflux. I've been battling with it on and off for 8 or so years. Most times I haven't needed anything more than OTC meds, but recently I'm having a difficult time getting any medications to work.
I always seem to have a burning sensation in my throat with a bad metallic taste in my mouth. My throat makes "sizzling" sounds or "air trapping" sounds. My throat is sometimes sore and at times painful. I have throat clearing, excess mucous, and all that other junk. I've even started taking Singulair because I've had asthma symptoms that could possibly be linked to reflux. Can anyone relate to this? It's really starting to freak me out.
I've had the usual tests done. Barium swallows, endoscopies, etc. I've been diagnosed with GERD and gastroparesis. I'm currently taking Protonix 40mg twice a day, Zantac 300mg once daily at bedtime, and Domperidone 10mg three times a day before meals. Nothing is helping me right now. I've been on Protonix about two or three weeks now, Zantac for about 4 months, and I just switched from Reglan to Domperidone about a week ago.
I should add that I'm also on hardcore antibiotics to treat lyme disease. Any relation between antibiotics and GERD?
I go for another scope on Friday. We're trying botox injections to help with the gastroparesis and I'm just praying that it will help my reflux. I'm going insane.
