What are the long term diadvantages of being on Prevacid?

Hi Everyone~

My son who is 2 years is on prevacid for silent reflux. He is on a heavy dose. He takes 15mg 3 times a day. I was wondering if I should be concerned about the long term effects of being on a drug like this. He will likely be on it for many, many, many years. He has such bad silent
reflux that it caused his esophagus to stricture (close up). Is he at any risk while taking this high dose of prevacid for such a long time?

kk, they are saying now that these PPI's can cause osteoporosis. I have no idea with a child what the repercussions can be. None of these drugs have been tested long term but many people have been on them long term. And I doubt that any were tested on children. Have you seen a pediatric gastoenterolgist? It might be going to a teaching hospital would be in order. You know there is surgery for this problem but I don't know about for a child. If I were younger(like 30 years) I would opt for the surgery(fundiplication) as reflux over the years can be very serious. sorry I can't be of more help.
