I was wondering why my lump in my throat never went away, even when I relaxed.  The GI doctors and ENT were no help at all.  I even showed the ENT lesions and cracks on my tongue, as well as the whiteness of certain areas of it (known as geographic tongue).

After doing research online, I realize now that I have a SEVERE case of dry mouth and this accounts for the lump (not just the GERD)...Anyone else here have that?

I'm not sure how to fix this condition.  I am constantly thirsty and this is a huge pain in the neck. Biotene dry mouth comes in mint and we're not supposed to take mint.  So what in the heck am I supposed to do??  DGL, etc. doesn't work...Should I take Salagen pills?  I'm afraid...It can give bad side effects (cardiovascular)...

There is an OTC mouth rinse for dry mouth called Oasis, have you tried that yet? You don't ingest it since it's a rinse. Also, I know this sounds silly but I read somewhere that if you are out in a desert and you are trying to conserve your saliva or to quench your thirst to suck on a pebble. It's not a solution but it's a suggestion - just if you decide to try that, don't choke on the pebble! :)

Wow, suck on a pebble...I am going to have to try that sometime just to see if it works! LOL.

Yeah, it's supposed to increase saliva production but I've never personally sucked on a pebble either. I just remember reading it in some book somewhere! lol

Yeah, a friend of mine told me that Native Americans used to put pebbles under their tongues to keep saliva going....

Thanks for the suggestions...But if Oasis is also mint then I might as well use the Biotene. It is also OTC...It's just that a nutritionist who has LPR told me that even using mint toothpaste gives her symptoms, so even if you are not supposed to ingest it I should probably stay away from mint products...Because if you put something in your mouth, it is easy to have some seep into our body..

So I was hoping that there are products that are not mint...

Yes, Oasis is mint.  Have you contacted your doc about the dry mouth?  If so, what did they have to offer?
