I have psoriasis on my foot - an area about 1-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches. Have tried many different creams, lotions etc. as well as those intended for psoriasis. Some worked for a few days then the psoriasis seemed to build a resistance and would flare up again.
Presently I'm finding this helpful: Equate hydrocortisone cream (non greasy Walmart brand) and Polysporin Complete (black tube). I use only the Equate brand hydro cream - pharmacists claim they all have the same ingredients but my skin reacts to the other ones- some seem to have a petroleum base which triggers for me.
First I apply the Hydro cream, then the polysporin liberally. Cover it with a tissue if covering with stockings/socks (also experimented with what is least triggering here - purex bathroom tissue - (5 squares folded to cover the area size works for me) to keep the polysporin and cream on the psoriasis and to prevent clothing from irritating skin during the day. I have to use stockings for circulation and nylon is a major irritant for psoriasis as it dries the skin like crazy, so putting a barrier between is important. For night I reapply both hydro and poly but leave them uncovered. Trying not to rub area on bedding as long as possible. I can't stand socks on my feet for sleeping. More laundry - oh well.
Initially it took about a week for original inflammation to calm down. Have done this routine for approximately 3 weeks and have very little, if any, scaling or peeling. Very soothing. Polysporin keeps skin moist and helps block hydro cream on skin surface. Some itching which stops as soon as applications are done.
Since my psoriasis started about 15 years ago, that area of skin has not even been close to light pink, just raging red and angry, so I think I may be having some success.
Also have psoriasis on toe nails which I don't know what to do about - toes are so awkward. Some toe nails are about half gone. What I have found helps to stop it up a bit is spraying vinegar on them as that is the best antifungal ever. If nothing else it helps the toes to stay clear and clean of fungus which would further complicate things. I leave the vinegar on. I tried doing this on the patch of skin psoriasis but the skin in that area blistered.
...keep thinking there must be a magical cure for all this somewhere.
