Hi everyone,
I have OA in my knee. I'm 32, I've had 4 surgeries. It started with an accident (I was hit by a car) and my ACL, MCL and cartilage tore. The first two surgeries made the the arthritis worse and every couple of years my knee gives out. I've had synvisc which worked really well for me as my main issue is cartilage damage, though my ACL is still torn. I just tried PRP for the arthritis and it did nothing. And after this last scoping, I've been laid up. Very frustrating. What else have you all tried for the pain? Are there other injections I should look into? I have had trigger point therapy but that was more painful than effective. I am currently in PT until insurance cuts me off. I'm not opposed to a replacement but insurance and my dr aren't going for it yet since I'm still too young in their eyes. And I also do acupuncture but it's not helping this. The pain level is very high--I have to take about 6 vicodins a day and can't walk without a cane. At this point I will try anything that will work and get me walking. Thanks all.

I have only had some success with the Cortisone shots, although they have never lasted the amount of time my OS wanted me to have them. I am 52 and will be having a total knee replacement within the next couple of months. Maybe you need to get another opinion with another OS, because I have been hearing more and more younger people are having TKR's now. So sorry you are suffering so. Hugs!

yes, I'm going to find out this week if that's an option. I'm getting my synvisc shot which was amazing last time. But if that doesn't work so well, I need a plan C. And I was told that no more scope surgeries because I didn't heal well from the last one (slow, the pain was too much) and the next surgery would be more invasive. My doctor is a really good one who tries some cutting edge therapies, so i'm trying to not give up on him yet. But I need him to be faster for me. I can't wait months...good luck with your new knee! that's so exciting! I have heard such great things about them!

you might consider mobic for arthritic pain at least it is out there as a generic and is very inexpensive at walmart's. i love it and am so happy it exists...but it is heavy duty aspirin and you have to be very careful about a stomach ulcer. i take a reflux type medicine about 20 minutes before eating and then eat and then take the mobic.

it is a shame you are so young dealing with this stuff. take care of yourself.

I've never heard of that one--I might try it! Right now I'm on vicodin so would not mind something a little less hardcore. The pain is that intense but I need my brain to not be so foggy all the time. I have no issues with aspirin so I'll give it a shot. Thanks Joan!

I'm glad to hear that synivisc works for some knees. I had meniscus torn in wreck, cortisone didn't help at all, but doc said synivisc doesn't work. So I'm confused. He said meniscus isn't bad enough for surgery, but I can't walk 1/4 mile over entire day and it's interfering with even swimming.

Vicodin helped for abdominal surgery, but stopped working and I refuse to take higher doses. PT would help, but 3 ribs were separated from cartilege in same wreck, bending, twisting or any leg-lifting exercises cause severe pain. Nerve blocks only lasted a few weeks.

Max dose of Mobic didn't bother my stomach, but it didn't do anything for pain either.

I take Tramadol morning and noon for fibro and arthritic back pain. It works very well for the muscle pain, not addicting, and I don't need higher doses after 2 years! It's not great for bone pain, but works better for me, with none of the stomach pain from Tylenol.

I wonder why your doctor told you that. Synvisc worked for me plenty. And I'm waiting to get it again. Perhaps you should try another doctor?

The only medicine I use is Tylenol Extra strength when I need it.I have tried many other pills & NSAIDS & all they do is effect my breathing.......NOT good for me as I have COPD......
