well, i was born with hammer toes and dislocation of the hip. had severe arthritis in the left knee and decided after ten years to have surgery.

I ALREADY HAD THE ORTHODICS for over five years. Have handicap plates since 1993.

Regular doctor is clueless, staff there VERY RUDE, USED VULGAR LANGUAGE ON PHONE ... IN NORTHEAST. A VERY BIG NO NO . Generally speaking most of the staff in the both Albany/Schenectady areas of New York are quite rude. Will be going to the Hudson area where the staff was polite. Staff was also polite in the Saratoga area.

ad a two hour mri yesterday. also plan on seeing a pain management doctor. am very tired.

sorry kitt, am SO TIRED, yes i want to be with forum but no more surgeries for me. hope they can do therapy or give a shot in the proper location. might have to wait three months for that.

had the shingles a while back and had to part/purchase a tens unit...so maybe since the ankle is the joint...pain management can help me.

by putting an ace bandage around my ankle...it does feel a bit better. this is insane. have to travel all over the place to get help. think the doctors moved to "greener pastures" where they could make more green. who knows?

most of the people in my little town are very polite. i live on the edge of Albany and Greene counties. it is very beautiful here or it could be that we are all touched in the head. who knows?

Sorry, Joan. It's hard to find good doctors in a rural area. The choices are slim in my town-one doctor. I have to go to neighboring towns to see the doctors I need. Three of my doctors are almost an hours drive away.

joy we are in the same boat. am so tired of it all. slept 12 hours last night and took a nap today.

I am so glad you are staying with the forum.  :-) I live in a small city of about 18,000 and we have more Doctors then we did when I first moved here.  We only had 2..........yowser.

Living only 30 miles from a metropolitan region is a blessing for us.

I hope you find pain relief and I wish you the very best.

You're sounding depressed with all of this. (((((((((hugs))))))))))))
I get spells of blue thanks to all my troubles and my thyroid issues. It helps me a great deal to talk with someone who will be my sounding board. It helps me get refocused on my goals.
You need to find someone to talk to about all of these issues. A good shoulder to cry on and help you work out the problems.

Could always travel East and go to Worcester/Boston. I know it is a hike, but maybe it would be worth it? There are some GREAT Dr's at Umass Medical School in Worcester. (just an idea)

yes, anybody with money goes down to NYC or Boston. somebody i know was happy to stay in the hallway in NYC after her surgery. said it was the people who were so nice to her. she wanted to be "with the people". my insurance does not cover nyc or mass.

there is little sympathy here and that's why i go to the boards. i tried to explain to one guy (my friend's husband) about my pain and he said "get a new ankle". women too are very slow to be sympathetic. don't really understand it because i am from brooklyn.

joy...sleeping is how i deal with pain. frankly my dreams are more interesting than daily life here. i do read, write (have been published in over 250 literary journals) and keep up my place, etc., also watch the tube. used to do a lot of volunteer work but can not presently. really do not care to interact with most people here in any case. find them to be quite limited in many respects.

I live in a rural area, too. The best doctor I have found around here isn't a doctor. She is a NP, and I like her and trust her more than any of the doctors I have seen here. I live about 15 minutes from a town of 3,500 people and about 30 minutes from a town of 11,000 people. My rheumatologist comes to the clininc in the smallest town once or twice a week. My orthopaedic doctor is in the same little town. Both of them are pretty good. There is a university hospital an hour away from my home. I keep that inthe back of my mind. I may make an appointment at the University one day, if I don't feel I am getting the treatment I need from the local docs.

I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. I can't imagine calling a doctor's office and hearing vulgar language. There is no excuse for that. Are the doctors there as rude as their staff???

How far is Albany from NYC? I was born on Staten Island and my brother still lives in the City. I always thought the people from Long Island were rude. LOL


Do you write fiction or nonfiction? Who knows! You might find some inspiration for your writing where you live. I have heard that Albany is beautiful.

yes it is pretty country here around albany. very pretty indeed. i really don't know how many miles it is from here to nyc. you can get there by train, plane or bus. i definitely would not drive but others do.

long island is not part of nyc...it is the suburban area. there is little appreciation for the enormous contribution of nyc to the state or to the country here. it is kind of sad that way. they do not seem to realize that nyc is a publishing center, intellectual center, language arts center, media center, fashion center, diamond center, retail center, gourmet food center, art center, antique center, etc., etc. all they seem to think of is the crime which is actually lower per capita there than it is here.

i write poetry, vannie, and have been doing it since childhood.

am beginning to think that insurance pays prime care corporation doctor to hold the account. however the doctors make out like bandits around here and consider themselves above it all. the corporation was unhappy about my move but the doctor could care less. this is after 11 years. o well...

I knew our medical system was not functioning well before I became ill, but now that I have to deal with it on a regular basis, I am amazed at how bad is actually is.

We need more doctors in this rural area also. I am lucky to have a rheumatologist. My husband wants me to drive to the Univ and see another rheumy for a second opinion if I don't have success stopping the joint destruction in my hands soon. i guess he is right. The Univ is about an hour and 20 minutes from my home.

I have found that it really helps if one can find a good GP or NP. My NP has helped me more, and explained more, than any of the other doctors. On top of that, she is nice. Such a rare combination these days. :)

I love poetry, Joan. I write poetry myself from time to time. Just a hobby. I would love to read some of your poetry some time if you tell me what publication to look for.

Hoping you feel better soon. I know we can't do anything directly to help you with your doctor situation, but we do care. And, I believe we understand, too! LOL

hi vannie...please visit joanspoems.com i am delighted you would like to look at some of my work.

on health issues, i simply say "don't ask, don"t tell". it becomes very competitive ... who is the worse off, etc. also i am not considered "normal" here but that's their problem. also there is this latest ... taking personal responsibility. so the doctors hammer in on the fact that i am overweight.

only talk to those i know for over forty years and who realize i tried very hard to be "productive", etc. they all live out of town (Boston or New York City) so don't get to talk to them often.

will meet the new doctor soon so hopefully she will be slightly sympathetic to me.

I agree with this 100%. I think the main problem is the INS companies. I could be paranoid, but it seems like they put you thru hell, hoping you will just give up. I have jumped thru so many hoops I feel like a trained dog.

thanks ... fugget about it is the best idea...also some other brooklyn expressions...'don't lower yourself' and the famous 'tell them what they want to hear'.
