Carpal tunnel would be evidenced in the thumb, index and partially middle fingers only. The little finger, ring finger and half of the middle finger nerves run a different path and are not affected by the carpal tunnel at all. Carpal tunnel also presents usually with a "falling asleep" type of sensation. I've had surgeries on both of my hands and had the right one done earlier this year. I had carpal tunnel syndrome making the hand fall asleep, but I ALSO had tendinitis at the base of the thumb causing major pain over most of my hand. Interestingly enough recovery from the CT surgery also cured the tendinitis because the cure is rest! I do have an issue with my left hand still and it is because of the nerve bundle in the elbow. Hopefully this gives you some info! Good luck!
