My sister has had knee pain in her right knee for well over 1 year. She has no PC so I am posting for her. First, she was told she had torn meniscii so she underwent arthroscopic surgery. The surgery was a waste of time. She has gotten worse to the point where walking 1 block is a chore. She uses a cane. She has since tried painful physical therapy and had 3 Synvisc injections which did no good. The pain is now spreading down her calf. She cannot tolerate medications such as Voltaren or the others as she gets side-effects. Now, her orthopedist wants her to get total knee replacement. He says she has severe OA. I frankly don't see how the knee replacement would help pain down in her calf spreading down her legs. Any advice? Thanks.
