I really hope the TKR provides some form of relief for you if not a surprisingly large amount of relief. I'm not sure what to say about managing your pain with medication, as my advice would be to see a pain specialist (which you're already doing).
Along with medication I have a whole range of therapies I participate in. I strongly believe we are the best healers our bodies have. I have spent a lot of time and energy learning how to meditate to minimize my pain. Aside from meditating I do yoga and tai chi because I can't walk or do many exercises in standing. I see a physiotherapist, massage therapist, chiropractor, naturopath doctor, cranialsacral therapist, myofascial therapist, reiki, and hypnotist. Some of the therapies I do need to be regular while others I attend when my pain is at a high level (I find it's even better if they come to me).
Well those are some things I've tried where I've had some success.
