I am a couple years too late, but I had both hips originally replaced 13 years ago - they were great, at that time I was 43 years old and back to work in 6 weeks.
Then due to an accident I had to have my right one completely replaced but my original surgeon had passed away and another surgeon did the revision.
From the time I woke up I had pain in my knee cap on the same leg (I did have arthritis in this knee before but not like this)
Four days after I got home the surgeon called to say that unfortunately I had received a fracture just above the knee during surgery and that I just had to wait a couple of months for it to heal (eight months later it still hasn't healed)
By April the pain in my knee was severe, the knee was swollen and had a lump on it, and when I tried to walk my knee would give way even while walking with my cane (which I have been doing since I got off my walker 5 months after the replacement) He had kept telling me that the knee pain was just radiating from the fracture that happened during the replacement in my thigh area.
I asked him to do something, but xrays did not show anything so in May 2015 I had an MRI done and had a follow up early in June where he said its only Osteoporosis wear and tear.
A week or so later I got a copy of the MRI report that shows I have a fracture in the knee cap (it shows that it is a stress fracture) I did not fall etc. to cause this injury. Also it shows a torn/tear medial meniscus with cartridge damage.
So I know I have been lied to as I presume he did not want to acknowledge that along with the original fracture in my thigh that he damaged my knee as well during the surgery and the only thing he is going to do is give me more shots for the pain.
I have already tried to get a second opinion with no luck so I will have to try harder as I have been out of work and in pain for over eight months with no healing and no end in sight
Please be careful of what your doctor tells you no matter how much he might joke or smile at you., they have a reputation to protect but we all have a life to live. You have a right to see all your medical files. If you have had a MRI go to the hospital and get a copy if you cant to it any other way etc.
Hopefully the issues you all have had here are now resolved but if not maybe some of this may help you or some new people to come.
