Thumb Joint Replacement

Both thumbs have been diagnosed as arthritic.  I have researched the surgery with the tendon placement.   Sometimes I cannot decide which hand is the worst.   My question at this point is this:  Has anyone had this done, and were they in constant pain before doing anything?

I have no pain whatsoever if not using my hands, but using the thumbs, particularly in the pinch motion definitely slows me down.  I cannot even open a ziploc bag.   I keep asking myself if it is too soon, or is sooner better than later in getting this done. 

I golf and time is of the essence in order to be ready for spring.  I worry if I don't do anything that perhaps things will worsen and I will regret the delay.  

I know it is a long healing process and I can deal with that.   Any info anyone can give me would be sooooo appreciated.  By the way, both thumbs have had a series of 3 cortisone shots.  The last one didn't even last much more than a month.

I then have an appointment on Wednesday with the doctor who gave me the shots.  He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and specializes in upper extremity surgery.

I also have an autoimmune illness....celiac disease.   This is a good autoimmune disease, if given a choice of all of them.   I have run a support group for people with this for 13 years.    So I understand you.

With you being a moderator here, have you seen any posts that people wish they hadn't done this surgery?   This is such a tough decision for me.
