Gel Injections in Knees

I have pain in both knees due to thinning cartilage. My doctor is recommending that I get gel injections. Does anyone have experience with this? Does it work?

I had the HA injections three times and It didn't work.
Now I am going to get TKR on my right knee.

Knee joint is very common type to suffer from osteoarthritis. There are many brands related to gel injections and all have different way of injecting like Synvisc requires three injections, spaced one week apart, while Hyalgan and Supartz each require five injections, spaced one week apart.

It does not hurt and might help but now it is so very costly that I can't afford it.

I have heard that some say it does them harm. That was not my case but I don't know what to say about it doing any good. In any case it is way too expensive for me.
