Hello everyone,
I wish to discontinue using medication to hide the pain. I have heard using an "unloader" brace will help. There are two brands that I have read about; Ossur and DonJoy. Has anyone in the forum used either and what were the results?

Hello AMT & welcome to the forum. I have had a total of 5 scopes on my knees over the years. The last one done I was walking up to the door of the surgeons office & caught the toe of my shoe in a indentation in the walk. I managed to break the fall but ended up twisting my knee less than 10 days post op. I tore tendons & ligaments. I spent a week in the hospital because of the immediate pain & swelling & ruling out blood clots.

After being released from the hospital at my drs appt my surgeon had a brace guy there to measure & fit me for a brace. I was put in a Don Joy brace for 18 months. While the brace did its job that was not a comfortable brace by a long shot. It went from below my ankle to half way up my thigh. Getting in & out of the car or truck was a real chore, walking or anything was a real chore.

Is this something your dr has recommended? I can tell you first hand if you are talking about the Don Joy brace I had, you need a professional to fit you properly.

Hi AMT. I am in my 20s with left knee post traumatic OA plus ligament damage. I used an ossur unloader brace for about 6 months. I have a job where I am on my feet a lot. Sometimes the brace felt irritating to wear, but overall it allowed me to feel more confidant on my feet and manage longer hours. It provided pain relief for me, but it is intended for medial compartment OA, so if you have OA in your lateral compartment I think it might not be a good option for you. I got mine through my own research on the internet and visiting an orthotics centre where they measured me up and ordered one in.

I had a Breg Fusion OA Plus Osteoarthritis Knee Brace. It sure put a lot of pressure on my shin bone and at the end of the day my shin hurt so bad. But, it kept the pressure off my knee.
