Willowman, do not be concerned about taking the pain medication, the surgeon will stop it before long. Since you are doing PT at home please follow the instructions you've given to the letter.
A very close friend of ours had his hip replaced & he was around 73 or so. He had needed it replaced for years & out of fear he kept putting it off. After surgery, he said he wished he had done it years earlier it would have saved him a lot of grief. The surgeon said his hip looked like a bunch of cauliflower, it was a mess. He was given a sheet of exercises to do at home & did them as instructed, he did not have to go to outside PT. One year after surgery he & his wife got to make a trip to Italy with tons of walking. Without surgery this trip would have never happened.
Keep us posted on how you are doing.
