I'm curious to see how many of you have heard or know of someone who has heard about the use of stem cells for OA or have thoughts about it.  If you have what are some of your questions and/or fears.  I've been giving this a lot of thought as a possible treatment as I'd like to keep my own knees as long as I can.  There is another treatment actually 2 other treatments I've read about and one is called Prolotherapy and the other one is using platelet rich plasma.  Interesting stuff.  I'd really like to know what everyone is thinking about this.  I found this really good website.   If you have time check it out and see what you think, let me know and if you too think it is helpful.  I'll be looking for your response and thank everyone for their time and attention with it, I really appreciate it.  Have a wonderful evening and remainder of week.

     Good morning! My name is Dani. It is very nice to meet you. I do hope you are having a good day today. I normally "haunt" the chronic pain forum BUT! The subject line of your thread caught my eye.  :-)

 

     I too am excited about stem cell technologies. The advances and information comming out over the last 3 years is AMAZING. I have read about "marrow stem cells" (ones havested from your own body) being used in spinal fusion surgeries where literally Fusion surgery ~~>Mobility avg 3mos. Most recently the information about "base" stem cells having the ability to adapt to whatever type is most needed in the area deposited in transplant recipent is.... Im reeling !!And getting off track!!  I wanted to tell you that the concept doesnt sound "off-base" but you might want to do more research into it. I too, will keep my eyes peeled for any information reguarding stem cells being used or researched for arthritis. I can only recall a few scattered articles about washed cells.... will keep my eyes peeled and let you know if i find anything.

Hi and thank you so much for bringing up this topic.  I have not had time to research it but it does look like Dani has.  The links posted by Dani are right from the nih and I hope you find them helpful.

Again sorry for the edit but the link led to a site that was selling  the an arthritis treatment kit for $97.00.

Dani,

No need to be sorry,  sometimes the site fools you and once you start clicking all of a sudden the order form is right in front of you and you realize it is an add for a product and not just a free informative site at all.  If you want to know the trick you must by their book, ebook, product or whatever.

I have been stung more then once and bought product even against my better judgement.  Smiles and keep on posting.

Hello Kitt and Dani,

Sorry I'm so late in getting back with you but I didn't mean for you to think I was "spaming"
anyone. I just found some information on stem cells and other treatments that are on the
cutting edge for osteoarthritis and many other diseases which are chronic and rob people
of their quality of life. It was just today that I found your replies to my post. I was beginning
to think that no one was interested in the subject at all. I've been doing a lot of my own
reading and researching on the subject and found that fat cells also have stem cells and can
be used to help make a framework for stem cells to grow on plus their stem cells help
to increase the number so that they will grow to be whatever cell they are next to. To think
that stem cells can repair a damaged heart, spinal cord injuries, optic nerve diseases and
the list seems to go on and on. Dani if you find out anymore information or have any
questions that you think I may help with the answers please let me know.

Thank you for your info.  It does sound like cutting edge info.  I understand that we all find sites that look good and then you find the hook later on when really going through the site.  No harm done.

Dani found some good info and if you find anymore and choose to add to Dani's please do.

I am also interested in stem cell theraphy and there is this clinic in germany xcell center that offers it but its very expensive.

And only a few people have been treated so i ll be waiting to see how all this pans out!

But this is very exciting never-the-less.

I am 37 years old and have osteoarthritis in lower spine and in a few fingers and have knee pain but nothing is showing up in x rays.

I was just looking at a site that talked about prp theraphy,just wondering if any anybody on here trird it?
