hi my names TJ im 37 and have had this illness for 7 yrs now, its taken over my life in many ways , ive come on here to talk to ppl that will understand how it feels, i take 17 painkillers a day , so on top of the pain there's the dizziness to deal with.
i hope i am able to meet new friends to talk to

Wow thats alot of painkillers. Have you ever seen a pain mgmt doctor? They might be able to give you something that works better. I use Percoset for my pain, I also have Crohns Disease, Fibro along with my Osteoarthritis. But I only use 1/2 tab 3-4 times a day. Good luck!

Hello and welcome to HealingWell. I agree you are on a lot of pain medication and also wondering if you need to see a pain management physician to look at other ways to help you with your pain.



I cannot imagine how horrible you must feel with so much pain so please know you have my support.

I have a very high tolerance for pain so I only use Tylenol extra strength when i need it for the pain.......

Toffy, welcome the the healing well forum! With the amount of pain meds you are using I hope you aren't getting an overload of tylenol which alot of pain meds contain. It can be very hard on the kidneys & liver. I too have osteoarthritis and CP but spend most of my time at the chronic pain forum but do check in here from time to time. I does sound like you need to seek out a pain management doctor. There are alot of other options for CP out there such as injections, pain pumps, extended release meds, tens units and so on. Possibly some of your pain issues are nerve related where a narcotic pain med won't help. Anyway, I am not a doctor so I can't really do anything but give you support and I do hope you can get some relief soon.

Hi Toffy!

I'm usually in the Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia forums but have been down here reading since my own OA has been adding to my pain lately.

I do understand how you feel about taking pain medications...it's horrid! But at times we don't have any other choices if we want to have any life at all. I do hate them, I'm mortified that I am on them and I would much prefer to be off...that said I am grateful that I DO have them since it affords me some relief. Along with talking to a specialist on pain medication, have you thought of getting a second opinion on your treatment? Go to a different doctor? Not the diagnosis part although that won't hurt any, but how you are being treated for the OA? That many pills per day is mighty hard on your system and there are better ways to get some pain relief using medications. I am on pain medication 24/7 and don't take anywhere near that many pills. At TOPS, if I use all of my options on the medication I have I would take 8 pills/day. And that could easily be cut to 6 by using 40 mg tablets instead of 2/20 mg/ tablets. This gives you a sample of what others take compared to yours.

Please understand we are not criticizing you at all...we want to make sure you are safe and getting the best treatment. Please do keep in touch...

I can imagine how you must be feeling. The pain in my hands is awful just now, i can't really take many painkillers because the upset my stomach. I really do find with the weather getting quite cold here in Scotland the pain and swelling is so much worse.
I really simpathise with everyone who suffers with arthritus!!!
