and he prescribed a new med for my EOA.  I had to stop taking Plaquenil a couple of months ago.  I am hoping  this new med works as well as the Plaquenil did. They had to order it at the pharmacy I went to, so I don't remember the name! I hope it works well and doesn't cause any bad side effects.  Thanks for reading. I just had to share with someone. I am happy!

I usually hang out in the RA and chronic pain forum but saw this one and had to check in. I take plaquenil and predisone for both the RA and OA and they just started to stop working back in January. If you find out the name or have good luck with it let me know. I have to talk to my new Rhuemy about changing meds on Monday. Good Luck and I hope it works out for you!! Take care. Heather :-)

This is the drug he wants me to take:

Chloroquine: usually 250 mg (½ of a 500 mg tablet) once a day

It is generally used as an anti-malarial, like Plaqunil, and it is also used to treat Lupus. He wants me to take 250 mg for a month and then call him and tell him how I am doing. then he wants me to up the dose to 500 mg. It would be nice if I could stay at the lower dose to decrease the risk of side effects.

We shall see!

Thanks for your well wishes, everyone!

I called the pharmacy today and they did order it and it came in....but I am to take 500 mg a day per the script, so they are ordering more tonight, and I will pick it up tomorrow. I think they originally only ordered enough for 250 mg a day. I am doing a fasting blood test tomorrow. Then I think I have to have a blood test in a few weeks to make sure my blood counts are okay. It is called Chloroquine, an anti-malarial drug that they also use for RA and Lupus.

I am so, so excited. I so hope it works.
