My friend suffers from arthritis. Recently, she experienced breakthrough pain in her thighs that varied from a 7/10 to a 10/10. When she visited her primary care doctor, an X-ray was performed and showed a "mass" by her hip. The mass turned out to be an ossified lymph node.
Although we are ecstatic that this "mass" is not a malignant tumor, I am concerned about
the treatment plan given to her. They simply told her to learn "pain management," rather than performing any kind of operation. Is this normal? Currently, she requires large amounts of opioids and muscle relaxers just to bring the pain down to a 3. She has a previous history of addiction to Dilaudid (hydromorphone), so I worry that she will run through her painkiller prescript
ions too quickly.
Thanks.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.
I am not very familiar with her dx but I would lean toward getting a second opinion. She should at least know what the treatment options are besides pain management.
Just my opinion this evening.
Kindly,
Kitt
