So it has been 8 weeks today since I had my thumb joint (Trapezious) removed and a ligament reconstruction. I live in Canada so the LRTI I think is the exact surgery that I had. Here it is called a Trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction. My Dr was a plastic surgeon and told me to do 3 different exercises to start my mobility. He said he could give me a script
for physio but if I just did these excercises I would be back to normal in no time. I was never given the impression that the recovery time would be 6-9 months.Since reading this forum I understand now why I'm swollen every knuckle is swollen to the point where my excercises are very difficult and painful to do. My wrist is very stiff, incision sites are also uncomfortable. My 1/2 cast came off at 6 weeks and initially I didn't wear a splint. I've since started to wear one as it helps with pain swelling and overuse. Again I was told to use a splint when sleeping and lifting anything heavy. What am I to expect in recovery time? Should I be wearing the splint more? Lastly is the swelling and difficulty bending my thumb to the index finger normal after 8 weeks, last 2 weeks has been without my cast. Looking for answers.
