Norco for pain

I'm just wondering if anyone else takes Norco for their arthritis pain. I went to a pain specialist recently for my terrible neck pain and fibro pain and he put me on Norco. I must say it really does help a lot, not so much for my flulike fibro pain but it really helps relieve the neck pain from Osteo which gets worse as the day goes by. Before that I was taking Vicodin, I can't take Ibuprophen because of stomach issues, but the Vicodin just wasn't cutting. I never thought I would have to take pain mess on a regular basis, but believe me, it is worth cutting my pain down to a 4 from a 8 or 9.

My husband took Norco for his hip. It never took his pain away completely but it did help him cope. He was on and off it over the course of a year but than he had to have his hip replaced.

Thanks for the reply Sherry. 

  I'm curious about what other people use for arthrtis pain.  Like I said I cannot take Ibuprophen, and acetaminphen does nothing.  I hope the hip replacement helped your husband.  I have hip pain also, when I walk, and it wakes me up sometimes when I'm sleeping.  It is a very deep aching type of pain.

Yeah, that is how he described it too. A deep aching pain with dagger like shoots of pain on occasion. Since his surgery, the pain is completely gone. He had his surgery in February and he's still at home on disability. But he is now walking without the use of a walker or a cane. At the time of the surgery, he was like what in the world did I do (it was a very rough surgery)??? But now he is glad to have had it done.

For myself, I also can't take Nsaids nor can I take many narcotic pain meds. Nsaids make my Ulcerative colitis bleed and narcotic pain meds make me vomit and pass out (they lower my blood pressure severely) plus I'm allergic to codeine. So I make do with Tylonel Arthritis. Doesn't always help but it does take the pain down a notch or two. So I envy people that can use narcotic pain meds! LOL

I'm very med sensitive myself, cannot take codeine either. I took tramadol for close to a year, but had to stop because it along with my sleeping pill, (i have major insomnia) and flexeril were causing me to get serotonin syndrome, which made me go through hell.  Also I was very surprised and dismayed to find myself going through terrible withdrawal symptoms going off the Tramadol. 

Anyway, I feel for you, it can be a challenge  to find the right balance of pain control without bad side effects. My doctor even offered me something stronger than the Norco, but I declined, I want to take the least strongest opiate I can, for as long as I can.  At least you have found something that helps somewhat, but i'm sorry to hear you are not able to take something that gives a little more pain control.  Maybe one of these Pharmaceutical companies will come up with something new soon.

I'm wondering if I may need hip replacements also sometime down the road, I too get the dagger like shoots of pain.

My aunt had a double knee replacement and she says it has worked wonderfully for her.
