Hi Everybody:
Unfortunately, arthritis has no age barriers. I was diagnosed in my late 40s. I also have Fibromyalgia and Neuralgia. Causes, car accidents, falls and repetitive strain. I am also a C. Diff survivor but I do still have I.B. I am now almost 61.
I had a bad fall at the beginning of the year. Was sick with a virus. Was using regular meds and hydrocodone to help stop coughing. It prompted a sleep walking episode and I had a bad fall going downstairs. I lost be balance or bearing before the bottom. Had an x-ray and a full body bone scan. I have Osteoarthritis in my neck, neck to collarbone, collarbone to shoulder blade, wrists (plus carpel tunnel), lower back, knees, elbow was bruised, and foot articulations. The OA in my neck contributes to daily chronic headaches.
I see a Headache and Pain Relief Doctor who does nerve blocks for the headaches. This is likely the most powerful of my treatments.
I have tried a number of NSAIDs. Began with Vioxx and Bextra. They are off the market (Vioxx may still be available, not sure). I now use Naproxen (250mg). I also take Baclofen (15 mg) (Muscle Relaxer) and Nortriptyline (40 mg at dinner and 50 mg at bedtime) (Anti-Depressant). The Nortriptyline is for Neuralgia. I do use Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM, a supplement and Vitamin C (1,000 mg), Vitamin D3 (5,000 mg), Magnesium Glycinate or Taurate and Magnesium Calm. Have tried Curcumin, Pantothenic Acid B5 and use pain creams. I used to take Calcium supplements but have been told now to attempt to get calcium with food. Have tried some Tramadol but it has not been prescribed to take regularly.
Off Lyrica due to weight gain but it did not cause any adverse reactions for me. Topamax was very painful for me.
Off: Omeprazole, Fentanyl Patch, Oxycontin, Topamax, Elavil, Desipramine, and Lyrica. Tried a number of NSAIDs before Naproxen, including Vioxx and Bextra.
I do use ice and heat. Ice for my head and heat on my neck. I am nowhere near out of pain. No surgery has been done.
I attended a physiotherapy in a heated pool and that has been most helpful. I used to get pain in my hip and groin area. The pool has helped my hip immensely and to the point where I don't have pain and can sleep on that side again.
Do keep moving. I can walk still but with pain.
