First hi everyone, i'm a newbie here :)
Had an arthroscopy 2 weeks ago as I have PVNS and they removed the tumour that was stuck between my femur and patella, he also removed around 20 loose bodies within my knee. I returned to my room and physio came in around 3 hours later trying to get me to raise my leg, bend my leg etc - I ended up crying because the pain was too much.
Different physio the following day said that it was a bit much to be doing that so soon - circulatory movements would have been ok, my other physio also agreed.
Anyway, 2 weeks on, my knee is still swollen (although not as bad as it was) I have bruising from my thigh down to my calf and I am in a lot of pain. Not so much when im sat down with my leg up, it is just slightly uncomfortable then, but when I move it is the incredible dull aching pain that is driving me insane. I am 30, i've got a 2 year old girl, a horse and I work full time. I'm active and what id consider fit, I came back to work yesterday and its a struggle just getting into work let alone being sat at my desk. The consultant told me I would be riding and driving within a week, yet 2 weeks on and my physio said I still need to be using crutches. I am unable to bend my leg much, although I am trying and doing the exercises.
Is this normal? I know everyone has a different rate of recovery but i had an arthroscopy before and was walking the same day, albeit it wasnt as invasive as this one.
I'm also a bit concerned as I asked the physio that came round on the same day if she had seen my notes as I was interested to see if the consultant said that my ligament was ok as he was checking this too and after trying to get me to do the exercises she said that she hadnt seen the notes, had a look and then said oh i think we had better leave you for tonight as youre obviously in a lot of pain.
My work are now investigating this as I dont want to be a pain or moan about it but they are concerned it may have aggravated my leg which is why its taking slightly longer than expected.
Any advice would be great as ive cried more in the past 2 weeks than i have in the past 2 years because of the pain - and i always thought i had a fairly high pain threshold!
