Severe pain after pubis fracture. Advice?

My mother fell 3 days ago. Se fractured her pubic bone, she has a long history of knee osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. She's 73.

Orthopedic surgeon said, this kind of fracture don't need surgery. But she's been experiencing severe pain, she can't sleep, and she has an impressive bruise/hematoma on her left thigh.

She has more pain today than yesterday. Drugs (celecoxib, acetaminophen, diclofenac) are doing nothing. My mother is very scared of surgery, she didn't want to go to the Hospital in the first place. Now she don't want to go back, but last night she slept on a chair, because she wasn't able to lay down on the bed.

I don't know what to think: maybe this is "normal" and eventually she will improve. Or her condition is worsening and I'm doing nothing.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  I am so sorry to hear about your Mother's fall and this injury is seen freqeuntly in the elderly after a fall.  Actually your Mom is pretty young.............. :-) Was she active prior to the fall?

With the amount of pain she is experiencing I would ask her Dr. to rexamine her and perhaps add some pain medicine as she should not have to be in severe pain. 

Just my opinion but perhaps she has another injury that was not noted on the initial exam.   Ultrasonography may be used to visualize the pelvis for bleeding or accumulation of fluid or to identify any internal injuries that may not have been noted.

Please remember I am not a Dr. so these are just my own personal opinions.
