Need advice re Weaning off cymbalta and prednisone

Husband diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in hospital ER a month ago, ER Dr gave Prednisone.  Pain totally gone.  Primary DR gave Cymbalta, 30 mg for 7 days, 60 mg for seven days and perscription for 30 days at 60 mg. Wants to quit that, need advice re weaning off due to severe insomnia after 15 days. 

Last week another ER visit due to paralizing pain.  Gave him 60 mg Prednisone for 5 days.   He has one day left (3 pills 20 mg ) Should he do one pill a day for the last three days to taper off or can he just go cold turkey on that?

 Need advice on weaning off both if necessary. 

His pain is completely gone due to Prednisone (probably will come back).  Not sure if Cymbalta is helping after 15 days (insomnia).

Going to see a rheumatologist soon.

Tough question to answer as each person's body will react uniquely to weaning. Anytime you wean off a potent med it should be under the care of your physician.

Is your hubby taking the Cymbalta in the morning?  When I was on this med I always took it in the morning.  Perhaps there is a solution that would allow your hubby to remain on Cymbalta and still get a good nights rest. 

Prednisone is also notorious for causing patients to feel "wired' and not able to sleep well.

I hope your husband finds the answers to his questions.

I just quit on my own and had the WORST migraine and vertigo for a week. DO NOT quit on your own. What about ambien??

Thanks so much for your replies.  Husband just stopped it as DR said he hadn't been on it long enough (a couple weeks).

Definitely need to wean down on the cymbalta. I quit cold turkey and had night sweats, nausea, migraines, and worsened insomnia that lasted for a bit over two weeks. His dr should be asked about the best way to wean off of it.

I've taken prednisone a couple times and never experienced any problems with just quitting it when my prescription was out. That's not to say he may experience some small issues, but I don't think it wil be too bad. Asking the dr would probably be smart, though.
