So I've had pain in my right hip for about 2 years now. It started out of the blue, and I first noticed it as it made moving to sit cross-legged very uncomfortable (it felt/feels like a sharp, stabbing pain right in the joint of my hip). I thought that maybe I had slept funny or pulled/pinched something, but after weeks it didn't seem to go away. Over the past 2 years, it's only gotten worse, and I finally saw my doctor for it. She referred me for an x-ray, which showed nothing. Now I'm contemplating an MRI after some internet research led me to the possibility that I may actually have AVN. The pain is intermittent, though it's more there than not. It causes my hip to feel stiff, and like there's a knife shoved into the joint. The pain causes me to have a limp at times, and when I'm walking, not only is it painful, but it feels almost like the bones are grinding against one another. As far as causal factors according to Google, I don't really seemt to have any. I haven't had any injuries to that area, I'm only 26, I've never had to take steroids for a long period of time (I think I may have been on them short-term for my asthma), and I don't drink more than socially, and even that's not very often. The only thing I can think of that may be causing AVN for me (if that's what it is) is a possible blood clotting disorder (my dad has the Factor V something or other, which predisposes him to blood clots and caused him to have a DVT several years ago). I've never been tested for it, but because of my dad's diagnosis, I'm 50/50 for having it.
For anyone that does have AVN, do my symptoms sound similar to yours? I'm for sure going to go back to my doctor for it, because AVN sounds like it could be pretty serious if left untreated, but until then, I just want to make sure I'm not reading too much into my symptoms and what the internet tells me. Thanks in advance. :)
