Please give me your suggestions/advice for my Mom!

Hello all! I am looking for info on behalf of my Mom who is 81 with Ulcerative Colitis and osteoarthritis in her ankles, knees and hands. Of course she is fearful of taking oral meds for her joint pain due to her UC and her primary care physician agrees. So, we are going to physical therapy to help her knees and mobility. We just started last week and don't see any improvement and it might even be a bit worse than it was. I'm helping her with the exercises at home but am wondering if we are doing too much. What exercises do you think would benefit her the most for her knees and do you have any other suggestions we could try. TIA. Vicki

If she's feeling worse with the exercises then you need to talk to her therapist about adjusting the movements.
A good therapist will adjust to prevent harm.

Meanwhile, you can ask her doctor for Volteren Gel to rub on the joints. It's safe for people who can't take Nsads.

Tylenol arthritis is also an option which will not cause gastric bleeding.

Voltaren gel is great. I can't take NSAIDs because of kidney problems. The Voltaren is awesome.

I agree about speaking to her physical therapist. The therapist will know many other ways to help that won't cause pain. Sometimes some pain is normal at first, stiff joints can resist some at first.

She may also look into swimming on a regular basis. It's great exercise for arthritis! A lot of hospitals offer water aerobics for arthritis inflected patients.

The biggest thing is to stay moving. I know it hurts, but it's going to hurt even more if you stop moving. Short walks would be good. You can walk with her everyday.

My mother is 88, has UC and has severe osteoarthritis. She has found Tylenol Arthritis Pain and Volteran Gel give her good to great relief. Also, does your mother use a cane? If not, it might help relieve some of the knee pain when walking. Ask the therapist about that.
