AC joint surgery

The acromioclavicular (AC) joint is between the clavicle and acromion at the very top of the shoulder. When the cartilage wears out the two bones rub together causing pain. The surgeon cuts the bone so they don't rub together. I believe this surgery is quite mild compared to other shoulder surgery. I can't comment on how it feels because I had this done in December 2012 as well as rotator cuff and labrum repair all at the same time and it's a three month or longer recovery process. I suspect that if you have arthritis in the AC joint you probably have it in the glenohumeral (GH) joint which is a much bigger deal. Three weeks ago I had this joint replaced with a prosthetic ball and socket because arthritis had totally worn out this joint and I had constant pain.
I will say one thing: make sure the doctor fixes everything at the same time: this surgery is not something you want to do more than once if you can help it. It's debilitating, painful and takes a long time to recover from.

Even if the shoulder is worse than AC joint, it's all repairable as long as it's caught early.
