I have had six shoulder surgeries. A lot depends on his age, the degree of the tear, other issues that may be going on. Most people do well, the horror stories are the ones that are more interesting, first of all, and the ones people tend to discuss!
Some docs do a bicep tenodesis or tenotomy instead of repairing the labrum if people are 40 or above. There is a risk of stiffness and less success the older one is.
