I feel incredibly frustrated and stressed out to a point of brain fog confusion. I'm posting here since this seems like a place people have experience.
I'm 25,f, had a hip problem all my life caused by infection that now falls under ostheoarthritis. I'm getting a hip replacement next month after my hip just stopped functioning last October. I've been trying to find some kind of benefits or funding I can get to help pay my bills, but Service Canada and Service Quebec have been quite useless in helping me. I don't qualify for social assistance because my partner and I (we are common law, no kids) have too much saved up and because we run an unincorporated business with several thousand $ in the bank. We just opened this business and we haven't accumulated enough yet to qualify for collecting EI premiums on taxes nor have been paying into the PP. We're doing this because we had to create work for ourselves due to lack of jobs available in our field. So, we don't qualify for EI either. Under this circumstance, it seems to be expected we empty out our business account, which is detrimental to our business. We should've gotten short term disability insurance, but since we're recent graduates... we don't know everything and we just found out about this recently.
Anyway, business aside... we still don't make enough money anyway to pay our bills fully each month and I really feel like there should be something to help me while I can't work and while I haven't been working since October. I can't sit at a desk for more than a couple hours, I definitely can't stand or walk for very long, I use a cane, and I can't lift anything more than a couple pounds. I'm not fit to be working, and I know hip replacement recovery is 3-6 months minimum...
Does anyone have any helpful tips? I already spoke with the government agents. I feel like people are being generally less helpful just because I'm young. I think the only thing I could possible apply for is the Canadian Disability Pension.
Can a medical report be filled out by a chiropractor? It would be much easier than trying to get an appointment with my surgeon or dealing with his very unempathetic secretary. I don't have a family doctor.
