I recently had total knee replacement in one knee. During recovery my foot was painful and started to swell. The dr took X-rays which showed, arthritis, bone spur, and untreated broken toe, from years ago.

Cortisone shot helped a little as did shoe inserts. Any suggestions what else I can do. I don't remember breaking a toe, but it is now bone on bone. Other treatments? I walk for exercise and it is painful.

Hi puppylover, is there a reason your dr didn't put you on some type of anti-inflammatory for the arthritis pain? That would be my first thought, whether OTC or a prescription strength. Not sure how long ago your knee surgery was, so I would certainly want to know if something OTC would interfere with healing of the knee. If your dr isn't cooperative see about being referred to a good podiatrist.

Painful feet are horrible to deal with. Take care.

Thank you Susie for responding. I should have mentioned that my primary dr doesn't want me to take anti-inflammatory meds unless really necessary due to elevated levels on some of my blood tests. Maybe now is the necessary time. The doctor I saw about my feet did give me a script for Voltaren Cream. Unfortunately my insurance won't pay for it. The last time I tried to get it the price was more than I could afford. He suggested Bio-Freeze which hasn't helped that much. I was wondering if there was another Otc cream that worked. It is the ball of my foot and top of my foot that really hurts.
I'm visiting here from the fibromyalgia forum,so I am no stranger to pain. I do take anti-inflammatories once or twice a day right now because the foot pain is pretty bad. I just want to be able to keep walking.

puppylover, a couple of things about Voltaren, go to their website & see if they offer discount coupons. If not then go to GoodRx.com & input the info about your script & you should have a very good discount. I use GoodRx all of the time, it saves us a bunch of money. I also use Voltaren cream. Another member in the chronic pain forum recently posted about arnica which she uses a lot. I will find her thread & come back here with the info.


It turns out her medical team suggested Arnica to her for muscle & skeletal pain, its been used for ions for various things. She said to check with any homeopathic type pharmacy or even check on Amazon. Another place to check is any whole foods grocery store, they always have a health section. She says it comes on different strengths & she uses the 100mg. I plan to go find some this weekend I have arthritis all over & cannot have anti-inflamms because of crohns disease.

I love your sig line about goldens, they hold a very special place in our heart. We have had 3 boys & 1 girl, we miss them terribly.

Thank you Susie for all of the info. I will try your suggestions. I have been so down because of this foot pain. The knee was bad before surgery but I could still walk the dogs everyday. But with the feet hurting on the bottom and the tops it is hard to walk period. Plus walking really has helped keep the fibro in check.

I have a 9 year old and a year and a half year old goldens. They keep me active. They are my third and fourth of the breed.
