Hello Everyone,

I'm back again to my favorite health forum. This is for my husband. For weeks now, my husband has had trouble breathing. Going from room to room or doing little things, cause him to have to lie down and catch his breath. He has no coughing, no plegm(sp), no congestion--he does have a runny nose-- for the longest time. Also out of nowhere he has had a bad stomach, which is getting better, but not the breathing.

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Get your husband in for a full check ASAP..Breathing problems can (not to scare you) but signs
of other things (disease) and not always Asthma, so get him checked up even if you have to make
the appointment, it's always safer to be sure and write down everything you what to ask the
doctor as well and go with your husband..
Keep us posted as to how it goes and will be saying a pray for you...

Thanks for your reply. He had a full check up in a hospital and they see nothing, it's very frustrating. He's had other check ups but the hospital was less than 2 weeks ago. I would never let anything like this not be checked out, he's seen

numerous doctors and had numerous tests. Thanks for responding and the prayers. I don't know why they never see anything when he has emergency type cases.

Has your husband seen a pulmonologist yet? If not, then I highly recommend you see a specialist. What about his heart? Has he ever had his heart checked out in detail? Sometimes conditions of the heart can cause a shortness of breath. There has to be obviously somethng wrong with him, you and him just have to presevere and find the culprit. It's not easy and sometimes you just have to keep going for that second opinion until something is found.

That's what I was thinking too, Sherry!
If the Hopsital has not done an Echocardiogram of his heart you might wanna ask for
one to be done as it can pick up on more than a ekg, sometimes hospital's will not do the
correct tests, They should've also done peak flow tests, get an appointment with
a specialist like Sherry mentioned, as a specialist will know what to look for when a
Hospital ER is too busy.....Try webmd.com in looking for a specialist and maybe ask around
go for the Pulmonologist first then maybe a cardiologist (heart) always continue to seek out help
if you have that gut feeling it's something...

Lots of us here have had to go from doctor to doctor to get the correct rx, you'll get one too, just hang in there...

Thank you all so much. I do believe he had his heart checked thoroughly but obviously something is wrong. He has an appointment with our GP tomorrow and I just hope he gets sent to someone with intelligence. There seems to be a lack of that around here and we play the doctors while they write prescriptions and can't seem even to get that right and forget about diagnosing anything. Sorry for venting so much but it's been a nightmare in getting any help or concern from the doctors we've seen.

I'll write down what you have said and bring it up. Thanks again.

Thank you so much. My husband and I need a break. Every since we moved here it's been bad for us both and we haven't found any good doctors. I appreciate your concern and hope I can give a good report.

Thanks for the concern. What I am about to tell you is not a joke. The doctor really said this and the only one who can take action is my husband.

Are you ready? The doctor said it was lethargy!! He came home with no referrals, nothing. Me, I'd asked for one. What am I to do? I believe I would ask for a referral or change doctors. There has to be a better answer than that, yet his tests don't show a thing. I have chronic pain issues myself, which makes things worse. My tests don't show that anything can be done. That is a hard thing to accept. And to think we were fine before we moved here. I am going to try to get him to see a pulmonary guy.

You don't want to be the nagging wife, but when he told me that was what he said, I couldn't believe my ears.

Have you had your house checked for carbon minoxide (sp?) Call and see about
having your furnaced checked as soon as possible and get a NightHawk Detector
I say this as you mentioned a move and you got sick after a move and well This should
be checked...Also wondered if the doctor could've mentioned Chronic Fatigue, which is
brought on by a virus and is a real illness...good luck to you with the pulmonary doctor!

Thanks for replying. But wouldn't I have shortness of breath also? As far as the move, we moved into a different house before this one and have been here over 3 years. I want him to say he wants to see a different doctor. That lethargy answer is so unacceptable--it sounds incredibly foolish. Thanks for your concern. I can always count on that on this board. It took awhile for me to finally be diagnosed...first, it was copd (I was a smoker, so that was the logical diagnosis), but then I started having multiple exacerbations/pneumonias, or whatever you want to call 'em - they put me in the hospital for 3-5 days at a time, and became fore frequent and closer together until this last fall, I had 4 pneumonias back to back, totally debilitating me, and requring several months of rehab. It turns out I have something called NSIP - it's an interstitial lung disease - fibrosing (scarring). It was only after a 2nd set of pulmonary function tests showed a dramatic change and a restrictive change that I was told to get 2nd opinion at a teaching hospital here...no one wants to do a lung biopsy on me due to the condition of my lungs, so NSIP is as close as the doc can come clinically (google it). I'm on oxygen 24/7 and hopefully, will stay stable. My doc said he's not seen me look so well in a long time! We moved out of our mobile home, and perhaps this helped...who knows what mold and such was there? We had several 'floods' due to broken water heaters and piping...and we had gas appliances and no room to maneuver a wheelchair (yep, I'm in a wheelchair now), so we moved to an apt - actually, 2 apts. my daughter and I.

Just hang in there, and keep plugging. You have to be your own advocate these days, and not give up.

I'm sorry to hear all that you went through. You are 110% correct in saying you have to be your're on advocate. I was saying about the same thing. We have to play doctors. They literally shrugg their shoulders and can not come up with even a guess what could be wrong. When my husband came home and told me that the doctor said he was lethargic, I couldn't believe my ears. How is that an answer?? I would think at least give him a referral. I just realized allergies can cause shortness of breath. I get short of breath when I'm at home, which is a lot. Why? My roommate has 4 dogs and a cat, I also have a cat. I'm allergic to both cats and dogs, more so dogs. But because of all the animals, I get short of breath at home and had to put air cleaners upstairs and down stairs. Um air cleaners are the thingy ma jobers that clean the air and spit out clean air. Shoot me, I'm a female LOL. After i get a few days of shortness of breath, i go to wheezing and after a few weeks of it, my doctor kicks me in the rear and gives me a nebulizer treatment.

We thought the same thing but he has to make the move. Seems like women are more likely to get appointments and referrals. He has done that but not with this. I agree though, it could be allergies. He says his nose has been running since we came here---well? Thanks for taking the time to write. I hope it goes away or he makes another appointment.
