Does anyone know anything about adrenergic urticaria?

Just an update on adrenergic urticaria.

Well, it turns out that is what I have but the great thing about this rare form of urticaria is that it is very easily treated using beta blockers in a very low dose (about 1/6 normal daily dose is enough to suppress the urticaria in my case).

Just to tell you what I have found out about it anyway:

• It's caused by stress primarily
• Wheals are very small and red with a white halo surrounding each one
• Only been recognised since about 1985
• Treated successfully with Propranolol, a beta adrenoreceptor blocker

My GP had never heard of it and it is apparently pretty unusual, but if you have to have urticaria, it's a good one to have!

I have been doing some research into my skin rash which my GP said could be an unusual urticaria. I hadn't considered urticaria as a possibility as the wheals of my rash are small (no bigger then 5mm) and have a white circle around them. They itch.

Anyway, I was looking at other posts on this site and came across adrenergic urticaria where the wheals were described as exactly like mine. I googled it and found a pic which is very similar to my rash. There isn't a huge amount of info out there though, so wondered if anyone on here can help.

Hi messylittlemonkey! I found out that adrenergic urticaria is a skin condition characterized by an eruption consisting of small (1-5mm) red macules and papules with a pale halo, appearing within 10 to 15 min after emotional upset.

Maybe, that's why you're having adrenergic urticaria is because you are always stressed. So I think, you should always stay happy and avoid so much emotional upset ...
