I am brand new to this board - I have been on the iVillage children's allergy boards for a while, but I have a question for people with lots of lifetime experiences with allergies...
My DD is 6, has severe dry skin and eczema and is allergic to peanuts, sesame, grass, cats and mold. She has always battled allergies, but has been getting hives more and more frequently. Her first hive reaction was to cats (and has had about
a dozen total) but today she got hives from using sunscreen (I think - all arrows point to sunscreen).
My question is this:
How do you all feel about
"alternative" and/or "holistic" medicine to treat allergies and eczema?
I am leaning toward this b/c her pediatrician seems clueless about
hives (said she thought it might be a virus - NOT), and her allergist acted surprised when I mentioned a food-elimination diet for my DD to narrow down reasons for her eczema flare ups.
Also, I worry about
the daily Zyrtec, steroid creams, and occasional Benadryl. I have lots of questions about
vitamins, foods, and minimizing her flare - ups without medication.
Any thoughts and/or advice is appreciated!
