Is anyone can share your asthma action plan on how to help during an asthma flare-up? rolleyes

Slight wheeze- take medication and see if it stops
wheeze-take nebulizer treatment
coughing and wheezing loudly-see the doctor immediately

That's my plan.

Your Best bet is to talk this over with your doctor.
and don't be afraid to bring this up as it'll be good for you to know what to do, and maybe ask him how to demonstrate how your
the proper way to use your inhalers as well...sometimes a spacer can help with those...So make up a list of everything you want to know
and make sure to put it in your purse for your next doctor's appointment...
It's good that you brought this up, an action plan is handy...

Hi All,

I recently had a discussion with a friend re: wearing medical alert jewelery.

I was diagnosed with Asthma when I was seven, but my Asthma has mellowed so that it is rarely triggered, unless I stupidly decide to go for a run longer than 200ms, or I get a good tickle. ^^

My friend and I both agreed that we don’t wear any because the metal bracelets and necklaces are expensive and ugly.

I recently found a silicone wristband place called Mediband, and they have cheap, 'cool' looking wristbands that say Asthmatic alert! I only wear it when I go to my personal training session once a week and when I go for walks, but it's trendy-looking enough for me to not feel stupid wearing it.

Does anyone else use a Mediband, or any other kind of alert jewellery? Do you wear it all the time or just for sport? I would love to know.

I don't leave home without mine. But then I have several drug allergies and glaucoma, too.

Hi!

I am visiting from the Lupus forum, saw rheumy, who said my lupus is stable, my asthma is not, and is making me go for allergy testing. My bottom line: if I could talk, I could breathe! My first ED visit as a pt. scared me to death. So I am going for skin testing in June. I am also the proud new owner of a misty nebulizer for my Duonebs. I like Joy's plan, and would like to add.... stay on your preventative inhalers. I hate mine and figured I was on so much emergency prednisone, (40mg x 1 wk, 30, 20 10) and the nebs, that I didn't need both.... busted. Dr. said why did I stop? and I said...cause I am not wheezing ..... so I am now taking my flovent like a good patient should. But I am NOT getting a flu shot.

ps. I have a medic alert tag on my keychain, and my cell phone is programmed for ICE, the free in case of emergency alert that is on it.

suetoo, just make sure to be off all antihistamines I think it's a week before the testing and that includes stomach meds and certain other
meds otherwise you'll not get a good allergy tests...make sure to call the doctor about being off these meds..but you'll do good...the pin
pricks don't hurt too bad...

Get the flu shot and the pneumonia shot!
I didn't get my pneumonia shot this last year and caught it two times!
I was late getting the flu shot last year and got H1N1.
My allergist and lung specialist said I need both every year.

Hi! All,
Thanks so much for sharing such good advice, I just hate the thought of flu shots, I've been a nurse for 34 yrs. and always said I would never get one. I hope you guys can talk me into it by Sept. When NY tried to pass a law last year that all healthcare workers get both or get fired, I would have shredded my license and said fire me. I just tucked my albuterol in my purse :-), too

I have found the best response to that tightness in the lungs is an anti-histamine. The ones I find work the best are the older sedating type like Chlor-Trimeton or Benadryl. The non-sedating ones don't do much. I will also use a rescue inhaler to cover the time until the anti-histamine kicks in. Be well.
