Air cleaners for indoor allergies

Hi everyone-

My son has seasonal and indoor allergies. The main culprit for the indoor allergies is dust. Anyone have any suggestions for a good air cleaner? Brand, type, ect.? Thanks in advance!

I use a TrueAir tower for my bedroom. It has a lifetime air filter.
My friend splurged and bought a air cleaner with an ion filter from an airconditioner place.

My son uses honeywell HEPA filter machines. He has one for his bedroom that is on 24-7. We have 2 others for main rooms of the house. Use of these, removal of all carpet (now hardwood floors and Pergo floors), and mattress covers has resulted in decreasing emergency room visits for asthma from 2-3 visits per month to 1 visit per 6 months.

Thank you for the replies. The carpet came out of him room and we put hardwood down. I noticed it helped right away. Next we are doing the family room. Are these cleaners noisy or quiet? My parents have one (not sure the brand) and it makes an awful lot of noise.

Ours run with less noise than a small fan. Very much unnoticable.

BTW - when they start making noise, it is usually time to change the carbon filter. :)

Also, when you do dust his room, make sure he is away for that day (cleaning day)
and book are notorious for holding dusts, maybe look into getting him an e-reader
sometime for a Birthday or Christmas gift...

We split my son's room - bed, dresser, HEPA filter in one room; stuff (including books) in what had been the guest bedroom. Put anything that we could into totes also, which cut down on dust.

Mattress and pillow covers are good to cut down on the dust mites too.
My air filter sounds like a fan on the highest settings and low settings I can barely hear it.

These are all wonderful suggestions, thank you! His allergies have gone from mild to pretty bad fairly quickly so I need to do all I can to help his symptoms. I have covered his mattress and pillows with the allergy covers so hopefully that will help to.
