Between an attack and a cat

I grew up with severe Asthma, in and out of the hospital, lots of doctors and lots of medications. It subsided for a few years but came roaring back in the last year. My doctor did a full allergy test on me and among other things, I came back HIGHLY allergic to cats and dust.

That made me think, every time I have visited my parents in the last year I ended up with a sinus infection and bronchitis, antibiotics and steroids each time. They have a cat and more than average dusty house My doctor is now saying I can't stay with my parents when I visit.

My mom is having a tough time with this, she has been through most of my Asthma stuff with me but this is hard for her.

What do I do?

Like Joy said, Calmly explain to her that your asthma is triggering at her house, and the doctor thinks its better to not go there so your asthma stays controlled

When I visit my folks I stay at a motel. My mother doesn't like it, but she understands that if she wants me to make the trip and visit, then she needs to be okay with me sleeping somewhere else.

I don't think it is a good idea to ask other people to change their lifestyle (ie asking them to ditch their cat!). That's just asking for resentment and unhappiness, in my humble opinion.
