Yes, food allergies can cause joint pain.
But steroids can too. Steroids can lead to joint pain during weaning and after stopping.
To repair the damage done (caused by steroids - they block sulfur metabolism, which depletes the joints of much needed glucosamine sulfate):
MSM, 1000mg/day and slowly work your way up to 6,000mg or more daily. Max dose is 12,000mg. My DH takes 6-8000mg/day for his steroid-related joint issues. MSM is an anti-inflammatory also, so it may help with the gut inflammation.
Fish Oil - enteric coated is best. Follow the label directions. My DH takes Cod Liver Oil because he can't handle salmon or krill oil. This is also an anti-inflammatory and has been proven in studies to help with colitis. But it also helps with joints because joints need the fatty acids to heal.
Vitamin C - antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, necessary for connective tissue health and repair. Start with 500mg/day and increase in 500mg increments until you get diarrhea. Then back off by 500mg/day until the diarrhea stops. This is called "Bowel tolerance." Stay at the max dose that does not give you the diarrhea. We have to get Vitamin C from food or supplements, the human body cannot make it. And unfortunately, the food supply is often very low in Vitamin C due to soil depletion and other factors.
Protein - eat good quality protein daily. The body needs it for repair of damaged tissues.
Exercise - to improve strength of muscles and connective tissue. Consult a physical therapist or personal trainer so that you don't do more damage to the joints that are bothering you.
