Hi I'm new here. I'm a 53 year old female, chronic moderate to severe asthma all of my life. I'm on 4 puffs of the highest dosed Advair, plus albuterol as needed. I just got over a terrible bout of asthma and was put on 40mg of prednisone for almost a month, that I tapered off of about 10 days ago. My asthma started flaring up again, so my Dr. started running some blood tests and he called my yesterday to come back into his office and told me I have ABPA (Allergic BronchoPulmonary Asperigillosis)..I'm scared to death. My lungs are already so compromised, I can't really do much physical activity, etc. Now they are saying I need to be on oral steroids for the rest of my life plus antifungal meds as well, and if that doesn't work then they want me on Xolair. I've already had an allergic reaction to an antifungal I took several years ago for an unrelated issue. ABPA is a nasty disease...no cure and it feels like a death sentence. Anybody know anything about this disease? I see an Infectious Disease Specialist next week. I try and stay positive but this has me so bummed out.
