Hi. Can anyone tell me how long a sinus infection can last? I have post nasal drip and it hurts if I tap the area above my eyes and by my cheekbones. I have pressure and a lightheaded sensation in my forehead along with clogged sinuses. Anxiety tells me this is a brain tumor!! The doc in the box diagnosed sinus issues and gave me biaxin and Flonase. Because of the side effects I held off taking it. However I gave in and took it last night. Is there a timetable by which this should all start to subside? I usually have clogged sinuses but the lightheadedness is making me scared to death of something worse. Crazy huh? I'm also posting on the anxiety site as anxiety is getting the best of me too!

If untreated with antibiotics it can last for about 2 weeks or maybe longer. What color is your drainage? If it's yellow or greenish, you should go to the doc and get checked out and put on antibiotics. If it's clear or white, it can be from allergies.

Hi. I can't see the discharge as it's in my throat. Went to a doc in the box and got meds. I started them Sunday night. Felt a little better this afternoon but crummy now. Can weather changes make it worse? We have snow headed our way!

Weather should calm the sinsues actually but you need an antibiotic to heal the sinsus and take a mucus thinner as well. This helps me. Try and hack that stuff up or blow your nose that will help clear it out as well.

Well I'm taking Biaxin and Mucinex. Can't hack it up or blow it out as it's too stuffy. If the snow and cold will help. I say bring it on!!

Its should clear the allergens outta the air. Keep going and do nasal cleanses every morning and night that will help also.

I've been doing that. I guess I just have to realize this won't go away overnight. And I need to keep my anxiety under control too!!

Sounds like anxiety might be getting best of you specialone. With brain tumors usually seizures or headaches some of first symptoms wiith a fast progression from bad to worse. Also genetics. Guy I bale hay with has had two brothers and father die from them.Hope this finds you feeling better..............BOX

I know it is hard not to worry. I have been really anxious too.

I have chronic sinus issues and, yes, it hurts to tap the area above the eye and cheeks. Sinus infections can also affect the ears. I also get a woozy feeling, due to fluid in my inner ear.

Keep in mind, the pain may temporarily get worse as the sinuses drain. This has happened to me a few times. A warm compress and plenty of fluids will help. The fluids help keep the mucus moving.

I have taken Biaxin. It works well, but can also cause headaches.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.  I truly hope it's just sinus issues coupled with anxiety.  I guess I'll find out today!

Well I was told I have sinus congestion, nasal swelling and fluid in my ears. She said to increase the sudafed, stop the Zyrtec and take Valium for the lightheadedness. No antibiotics as she doesn't feel it is an infection. She said the biaxin I took probably took care of the infection. Does this sound right? Can fluid in the ear make you dizzy?

Yes fluid will make you dizzy as the ear is where your balance "buttons" are. Bending and lifting or moving suddenly will make it worse. Do what the doc says and you should be fine in no time.
