Dog Allergy Relief

You could try allergy shots, but the first thing the allergist will tell you is to find the puppy a new home. I understand your love for the pup, as I have two myself, but I don't know of any other solution.

Judy and Sherry, thank you so much for replying. I did take the Zyrtec, well the generic, and it helps but I still need a little prednisone. Much less however. I took 5 mg with a zyrtec this morning and it worked fairly well until dinnertime, and then I took another 5 mg prednisone with 12 mg benedryl. Also using my inhaler a bit.

I'm reasoning that I am suffering badly from spring allergies and that Cozy is exacerbating them. It's very very hard but I am not giving up. She's a very good dog and she likes her own bed, fortunately.

I am taking oral (sublingual) drops as a means to get rid of my allergies. I was told it is a much quicker process (6 months to a year) to get results.

It has helped me quite a bit so far and it has been only 3 months.

So glad to hear your getting some relief, don't forget that doggie baths might help as well....
Hope things continue to improve for you...The dog outside would be a last resort and I didn't mean it to offend...Dr. Smiths and Fosters has some get products to train your dog to use the same locations outside...(The are kinda expensive, but our pets are worth a little extra!)...

Hi again all, Just want to post an update.

I have been taking 1/2 a benadryl at bedtime and a Zyrtec in the morning but today I took a 1/2 benadryl and I am tired and depressed. I won't be taking benadryl during daytime/functional hours again.

I haven't had the greatest luck with the allergy doctor I saw, he just put me on prednisone and I had no clue about over the counter meds.

Keeping Cozy meant so much to me, and I thought "at least try everything out there" and I lucked out with the Zyrtec, makes me wonder how things might have been better had I tried otc a long time ago.

I was really surprised how miserable and grim I felt after taking that benedryl. Live and learn!

Yeah, he did! I kept asking for the allergy shots, and he kept telling me I had to wait until the inflammation got better. It made sense at the time. He also had me inhaling some purple inhaler with powder and when I looked it up online it said "may cause death" so I stopped that because I was continuing to have severe asthma attacks.

I am sure he knew better than I how destructive long term, daily, prednisone use is. Another thing, he was perfectly happy having me come in for the same breathing tests every 2 weeks, it almost felt like he was milking the system, and I was not getting better. He was a pleasant enough man I just wasn't making very much progress..

When he billed me a huge co-payment that I wasn't expecting, as I believe I have full coverage for my copay, I stopped going.

Eventually I kind of hit a plateau with the asthma, I have it, it never fully goes away and I have to watch my triggers, but I have a little control with the rescue inhaler, allergy meds and a tiny bit of prednisone, like 5 mg every couple of days. I'm living with it.

I wish I had acupuncture coverage, I really should see if I can get that. I know it would help.
