Hello,
Very sorry about what you both are going through. I too had very similar itching but finally finally got some relief. I wanted to briefly share my experience in hopes that it can help someone. For about 6 months I had been itching all over my body. Worst 6 months of my whole life. No rash, just intense itching. I went to my Primary doctor who ran many many tests. All the tests came back negative. He then referred me to a dermatologist. He wasnt able to determine anything either. The itching was so bad it seemed to wake me up at about 1AM every night. I spent many nights up reading through forum after forum just hoping to find something wrong. I had almost convinced myself I had Scabbies and that every little line i could find on my body was a burrow.
I went back to my primary doctor again to see if there was any additional testing they could run. Tested my thyroid again to see if there were any changes but there werent. Then was referred to an Allergy doctor. Once again nothing. It seemed like all the doctors wanted to do is put me on Prednisone and recommend I take Zyrtec and Benadryl. I went through 3 Rounds of Prednisone over the course of this whole deal. Everytime it would give me very temporary relief. Once i stopped it, the itch would come back.
After discussing with a friend what i was going through, they recommended i look into something called a Candida yeast overgrowth (Candidiasis). I had never heard of this before. During one of my visits to my primary doctor I mentioned this and asked if it was a possibility. He quickly dismissed it. After doing a little searching I found a doctor who specialized in Chinese medicine. During my first visit we went over all the symptoms I was having. After some initial testing she mentioned that she thought I had a yeast overgrowth (I did not mention candida or yeast overgrowth at all) which was causing the itchy skin. She explained that everyone has this candida yeast and typically it is not a problem. It is when an overgrowth occurs that it can be a problem. This can be caused by stress, taking antibiotics (they kill the good bacteria in your stomach allowing for the overgrowth), as well as eating too much sugar (yeast thrives with a high sugar diet). The symptoms of this can vary person to person which is why it is so hard to diagnose and typically ignored by western medicine doctors.
Been doing the treatment plan for about 4 weeks now. For the first time in about 7 months I went a whole week without itching and I slept through the night every single night. Treatment consists of a zero sugar diet to starve the yeast and also anti-fungals to kill it. Its not an easy treatment plan but it is definitely better than itching.
Anyways sorry for the long post. I am just so excited to not be itching anymore and hoping I could help others because as I said it was the worst 6 months of my life. Do some research on it, it just may help you out
