Bleeding nose with headache

Hi everyone! I was advised to post my question here as you may have experienced something like it. Here's my post from the Migraine Forum:

"Hi! I'm new here. I checked previous posts looking for something similar to my symptoms. I had a headache yesterday and it's only at the back of my head. It was so immediate and painful yet I did not take pain killers like I used to. I tried to sleep it off for about 20 minutes but the pain just increased. I gave up the thought of sleeping and checked my emails instead. That's when, I felt dizzy and felt something warm rushing down my right nostril. When I touched my nose with a finger I saw some blood on it. I immediately wet a towel and apply it at the back of my head to stop the bleeding, and it did after several minutes. Then I took pain killers to stop the pain in my head from increasing further. The pain was gone after more than an hour.

My question is, did anyone experience nose bleeds from migraine?"

I do have allergic rhinitis but I did not think that the bleeding was related to that. I thought it was migraine. I already made appointment with my doctor but he will be back from his travel by the end of the month. So far, the bleeding did not happen again. Just the headache that comes and goes.

You may have hypertension like me. The pain at the back of the head and nose bleed can be due to high blood pressure. You said that you also take painkillers to stop the pain. I was informed by my doctor that too much use of NSAIDs like Ibuprofen can lead to nose bleeds. Check you BP while you don't have the pain and the bleeding if its normal and check again next time you feel the pain in your head or has nose bleed. If your BP is high then you should also tell you doctor about it for proper diagnosis and treatment.

I will guess the nosebleeds are more likely to be related to the allergic rhinitis than the migraines. If the weather or your room is very dry it can irritate the membranes and make it more likely to get a nosebleed.

A headache at the back of the head can be stress-related. Do you happen to notice if you're lifting up one or both shoulders while standing or sitting? That can cause the problem.

In any case, as Rolan said, you should see a doctor to see what's going on.

I saw my doctor last week and he had two things for me, allergy and high blood pressure.

The pain in the back of the head prior to nose bleed is an indication of a high blood pressure. I have a fondness for salty foods and its starting to affect my body. He put me on a low-salt diet for a month to check if the blood pressure is still manageable else, he will prescribe medicines to control it. Enough sleep and regular exercise were also advised as stress can also cause my blood pressure to rise. I’m guilty about not having enough exercise. I was so busy working at the office that all I want to do at the end of the day was to go home and rest.

The dry weather also contributes to the nose bleed as I already have allergic rhinitis and I was told to use a humidifier in my room to keep the air moist. Could you give me tips on what brand to purchase please? Thank you for all your help guys!
